Founder & CEO

Montana is a visionary entrepreneur, community leader, and the driving force behind the growth and success of GRIT Engineering Inc. With a strong foundation in business management and a passion for innovation, she has transformed GRIT from a start-up into a recognized leader in its field. Her leadership has been instrumental in diversifying the company’s portfolio, expanding into multiple sectors, and creating a culture of collaboration, creativity and excellence.

As a licensed Professional Engineer in Ontario and a Designated Consulting Engineer, Montana’s extensive project experience spans municipal, residential, commercial, industrial, and agricultural sectors. She holds a Bachelor of Civil Engineering from Queen’s University, a Master’s in Civil Engineering from the University of Western Ontario, and an Executive MBA from the University of Fredericton.

Known for her strategic foresight and commitment to sustainability, Montana has earned multiple accolades, including the Ontario Home Builders’ Association’s first-ever Service Professional of the Year Award. Montana is celebrated for her philanthropic efforts, dedicating her time and resources to initiatives that empower women and support local communities.

Nick Preikschas, C.E.T.
Director of Civil Engineering

Nick is a seasoned Civil Engineering Technologist with over 14 years of experience in municipal, residential, commercial, industrial, and agricultural sectors. As the Civil Engineering Director at GRIT, he oversees a variety of engineering design projects, including site planning, grading, servicing, and stormwater management. Nick is dedicated to delivering cost-effective design solutions while ensuring project objectives and timelines are met. He is known for his strong commitment to clear communication with clients and stakeholders, enhancing the development and approval process for each project.

With a diploma in Civil and Environmental Engineering Technology from Conestoga College, Nick is a Certified Engineering Technologist (C.E.T.) who excels in project management and team coordination. His leadership ensures seamless collaboration between disciplines such as mechanical and electrical engineering, driving efficiency and high-quality results.

Outside of his technical expertise, Nick is passionate about mentoring and fostering professional growth within his team at GRIT. He is also actively involved in local community initiatives, serving on various boards to contribute to his community’s development.

Simon Culliton, BA., PGC
Survey Director

Simon is an experienced Survey Director with over 13 years in the geomatics and survey industry. His expertise includes the planning, coordination, and execution of land survey projects, with a deep understanding of approval processes related to consent and re-zoning applications. Simon’s extensive knowledge of the development processes in Perth, Huron, Oxford, and Lambton Counties allows him to effectively liaise between municipalities, counties, and clients, ensuring smooth approvals and successful project outcomes. He holds a degree from The Lassonde School of Engineering, York University, and a postgraduate certificate in Digital Geography and Civil Technology from Ryerson University.

As the Survey Director at GRIT Engineering Inc., Simon is committed to delivering cost-effective solutions that meet client needs while maintaining strict timelines and budgets. His attention to detail and dedication to clear communication ensures that all survey projects are completed efficiently and to the highest standard.

Simon is an active member of the Stratford community, volunteering with local organizations and sports programs. His commitment to both his clients and his community makes him a trusted leader in his field.

Jim Nicol, OLS, OLIP, EIT
Ontario Land Surveyor

Jim is an experienced Ontario Land Surveyor with a reputation for his comprehensive expertise in land surveying and project management. Throughout his career, he has successfully managed a wide range of projects, from initial site assessments and survey estimates to detailed field work and plan drafting. Jim is skilled in construction development and excels in overseeing complex projects, ensuring precision in site planning and contributing to the successful outcomes.

With in-depth knowledge of engineering surveying, project management, soils, and drainage systems, Jim brings a strong technical foundation to his work. His leadership in resource management and team building ensures effective project execution and high standards of quality.

Jim is known for his excellent interpersonal skills, maintaining strong client relationships and conducting negotiations with ease. His commitment to professional growth and delivering results is matched by his dedication to fostering collaboration and continuous improvement within his team.

Spencer Bannon, Director of Environmental Engineering

Spencer is a Professional Engineer with over 14 years of experience in the environmental engineering field. As Director of the Environmental Division at GRIT, he oversees a variety of environmental engineering disciplines, including site assessments, air and noise assessments, environmental permitting, and regulatory compliance. He is qualified to determine records of site condition and quality standards for excess soils, and his expertise spans a broad range of sectors, including municipal, industrial, institutional and government.

Spencer holds a Bachelor of Engineering degree in Environmental Engineering from the University of Guelph. His technical proficiency and comprehensive industry knowledge enable him to develop tailored, cost-effective solutions to complex environmental challenges. He is known for his strategic approach to problem-solving and his ability to deliver high-quality results on time and within budget.

Beyond his technical work, Spencer is a strong advocate for education and industry advancement. He represents GRIT at the Huron Manufacturer’s Association (HMA) and the Ontario Agri-Business Association (OABA) and has a long history of training stakeholders on environmental and regulatory matters. Spencer is dedicated to providing exceptional service while building strong, lasting relationships with clients.

Kyle Hillar, Director of Geotechnical Engineering

Kyle is an accomplished Geotechnical Engineering Director with 18 years of experience leading diverse geotechnical projects across Central and Southern Ontario. He is known for his expertise in project management, geotechnical investigations, and materials testing. Kyle has managed a wide range of projects, including residential, commercial, industrial, and public works, overseeing all aspects from field investigations to report preparation. His dedication to fostering team growth has led to the implementation of structured training programs and mentorship for both new graduates and seasoned professionals.

With a deep understanding of soils testing, site investigations, and compliance with regulations, Kyle is a key figure in ensuring the success of complex projects. His technical skills, combined with his ability to manage resources effectively, have earned him a reputation as a leader in the geotechnical engineering field.

Kyle enjoys spending time in the great outdoors, indulging in activities such as fishing, hunting, and camping. He is also a passionate coach, actively contributing to the New Hamburg Minor Hockey Association and Wilmot Softball Association for many years.
